
Shiatsu literally means pressure with the fingers. Shi: finger and Atsu: pressure.
Shiatsu is an holistic body therapy of Japanese origin that consists in applying finger, thumb and palm pressure on different parts of the body. Its principal aim is to balance the nervous system, thereby improving the health of the patient and stimulating the body’s own powers of self-recovery. It relieves pain, relaxes the body and provides an overall feeling of well-being. The pressures in Shiatsu stimulate the nerve ends in the skin, which enhances the release of physical and emotional tension.
